Have you ever been at work and needed a file from your home computer? With OneDrive you can easily fetch files on your PC from anywhere and setting it up is easy! With just a few clicks you can configure OneDrive on your Windows 10 home computer to allow access to its files from the OneDrive Web App – onedrive.com.
In the past, if you wanted to access your home computer remotely, you needed to configure some type of remote control software, either with Windows RDP or something like PCAnyWhere. Then you needed to configure your home router for port forwarding and dynamic DNS. In other words, it was a pain in the butt. Now with OneDrive, you can allow access to your home computer from anywhere on the Internet in four simple steps or less.
How to configure OneDrive to fetch files on your PC
You will need an Internet connection and Windows 10 on your home PC, but you can fetch files from it with any PC that can access the OneDrive Web App.
If you don’t already have the OneDrive app installed on your Windows 10 PC, download and install it – https://onedrive.live.com/about/en-us/download/
Right-click on the OneDrive icon in the systems tray area of your taskbar (the icon may be hidden so click the ‘Show hidden icons’ arrow to access it.) Then click ‘Settings’
Under the ‘Settings’ tab on the pop-up Window, and under ‘General’, tick the checkbox that says ‘Let me use OneDrive to fetch any of my files on this PC’. Then click Ok.
Restart OneDrive. Right-click the OneDrive icon in the taskbar, then click ‘Exit’. Now click the Start button on the taskbar, and type ‘OneDrive’ then hit enter.
Access your files from the OneDrive Web App
You can now access any file on your PC from the OneDrive.com website. You should find your PC(s) listed under PCs in the OneDrive.com sidebar. The first time you access your PC from a remote computer, you will be asked to enter a security code.
You can access files from your Favorites, Libraries, drives, or folders
That’s it. It has never been easier to setup remote access to files on your home PC!
